| Summary, etc. | La version américaine de La Vie de Galilée, écrite à Los Angeles entre 1944 et 1947 et née d’une collaboration étroite entre un dramaturge, Bertolt Brecht, et un comédien, Charles Laughton, constitue un matériau privilégié pour comprendre le travail de Brecht de l’écriture à la scène, puisque cette version de la pièce rédigée en anglais est la seule dont il dirigea lui-même la mise en scène. Galileo est un bon exemple pour voir se développer, au-delà de la biographie du savant, une réflexion de Brecht sur la question du regard et de la représentation. Comme la plupart de ses pièces, Galileo était pour Brecht un texte réflexif et critique sur son écriture théâtrale. |

| Summary, etc. | Los Angeles ‘47: the American Version of Galileo Galilei The American version of Galileo Galilei was written in Los Angeles between 1944 and 1947 thanks to a close partnership between a playwright, Bertolt Brecht, and his interpreter, the actor Charles Laughton. The text constitutes ideal material for understanding Brecht’s way of creating, and following it from the text to the stage, for the simple reason that this English version is the only one which Brecht himself directed on the stage. Galileo is a perfect example of Brecht’s way of staging his own thoughts and doubts about his theatrical practice. |
