| Summary, etc. | Le présent numéro réunit les actes de la journée d’hommage à Charles Dédéyan (1910-2003) qui, entre la génération des fondateurs (F. Baldensperger, J.-M. Carré) et les comparatistes d’aujourd’hui, a marqué de son immense culture et de sa puissante personnalité l’enseignement de la littérature comparée à la Sorbonne, assuré son rayonnement dans le monde entier et les progrès de la recherche dans cette discipline. Organisée par Pierre Brunel, qui fut son disciple, son assistant puis son collègue à l’université de Paris-Sorbonne, cette journée d’hommage, le 19 juin 2010, a bénéficié de la présence et de la participation de la famille du Maître disparu, ce qui a permis de revenir à ses origines, à ce foyer comparatiste que constituaient déjà des Arméniens installés à Smyrne avant un nouvel exil. C’est donc la personnalité entière, restée parfois secrète, de Charles Dédéyan et aussi la richesse exceptionnelle de sa bibliothèque qui, par des témoignages directs et émouvants ainsi que par des recherches savantes, sont ainsi révélées par ce numéro spécial de la RLC. Une série de communications, dues à des collègues français et étrangers (Jacques Body, Pierre Brunel, Yves Chevrel, Francis Claudon, Giovanni Dotoli, Daniel Madelénat, Jean-Yves Masson, Hisashi Mizuno, Mikael Nichanian, Daniel-Henri Pageaux, Jean-Louis Backès), dont l’un de ses fils, Gérard Dédéyan, conduisent de l’homme à l’œuvre, d’une expérience vécue de la littérature comparée à une époque historique pour cette discipline jusqu’au bilan et au prolongement des recherches sur les grands sujets que Charles Dédéyan avait élus. Une place particulière est faite à l’Italie, qu’il a tant aimée, et où vient de paraître, sous l’impulsion du Professeur E. Kanceff, un volume posthume consacré à Stendhal. |

| Summary, etc. | This presentation gathers together a day of tributes to Charles Dédéyan (1910- 2003), who in the period in the history of comparative literature studies between the generation of its founders (F. Baldensperger, J.-M. Carré) and its modern day practitioners, marked his immense cultural prowess and his powerful personality in teaching comparative literature at the Sorbonne, assuring its flowering the world over and the advance of research in the discipline. This day of homage, organised on the 19th of June 2010 by Pierre Brunel, who was Dédéyan’s disciple, assistant, then his colleague at the Sorbonne, benefited from the presence and participation of the family of the late master. This allowed for an exploration of his origins and the development of comparative studies by Armenian exiles in Smyrna (modern-day Izmir), before their second exile. It is therefore the whole Charles Dédéyan, who remains sometimes so secret, and also the exceptional richness of his library which, by direct and moving testimonies, as well as by scholarly research, is thus revealed by this special edition of the RLC. A series of contributions, from colleagues both in France and abroad (Jacques Body, Pierre Brunel, Yves Chevrel, Francis Claudon, Giovanni Dotoli, Daniel Madelénat, Jean-Yves Masson, Hisashi Mizuno, Mikael Nichanian, Daniel-Henri Pageaux, Jean-Louis Backès), of whom one is Dédéyan’s son, Gérard, lead us from the man to his work, and from a life lived in literature to a historical epoch for this discipline, right up to an assessment and to the extension of research into the big subjects which Charles Dédéyan explored. Mention is particularly made of Italy, a country which Dédéyan so loved, and whence comes a recent posthumous volume (E. Kanceff ed.) of his devoted to Stendhal. |
