Elles se révoltent contre le Grand Expérimentateur qui observe la vie de l’homme comme un entomologiste torture des insectes. Pour échapper au destin, elles regardent au-delà des bornes de la vie, plus encore avant la naissance qu’après la mort ; elles tentent de sauver des instants par le rêve, l’amour ou le jeu, et surtout par l’art. Rivalisant avec le Grand Expérimentateur, elles découvrent qu’il est non seulement un savant cruel mais aussi un merveilleux artiste. |

| Summary, etc. | Both victims and guilty parties, the female narrators of Zofia Romanowicz’ novels attempt to preserve freedom where they only observe fate. They revolt against the Great Experimentator who observes human life as an entomologist tortures bugs. To escape fate, they look beyond life’s limits, more often before birth than after death; they try to save moments by dreaming, loving, or playing, and especially through art. Rivaling with the Great Experimentator, narrators discover that he is not only a cruel scientist, but also a marvelous artist. |
