| Summary, etc. | En 1405, le gouvernement patricien messin est renversé par des contestataires qui remplacent les patriciens exilés, tout en réformant les institutions municipales. Cette réforme est beaucoup plus limitée que celles qui, dans les villes germanophones de l’Empire, conduisent à la création de régimes fondés sur la représentation de corps de métier. Pourtant, elle témoigne d’une réflexion sur la légitimation politique et sociale : la longue charte connue comme « Grand atour » qui lui donne une mise en forme écrite commence par une critique radicale du gouvernement patricien, puis énumère une longue série de mesures de détail qui vise certainement à rendre acceptables les mesures prises. Le retour à l’ordre ancien, avec répression violente, a lieu dès 1406, mais la mémoire des événements et du texte reste vivace pendant au moins un siècle, ce dont témoigne une transmission manuscrite révélatrice des usages de long terme de ce texte contestataire. |

| Summary, etc. | In 1405, the patrician government of Metz was overthrown by protesters who took the place of the exiled patricians, while reforming the municipal institutions. This reform was much more limited than those that, in the German-speaking cities of the Empire, led to the creation of regimes based on the representation of guilds. Nevertheless, it demonstrated a broad rethinking of political and social legitimization: the long charter known as the Grand Atour, which gave a written form to this process, begins with a radical criticism of the patrician government and then lists a long series of minor measures that are intended to make the measures taken appear acceptable. The return to the old order, with violent repression, took place as early as 1406, but the memory of these events and this text remained alive for at least a century, as proved by a manuscript transmission which brings to light the long-term uses of this oppositional text. |
