| Summary, etc. | L’effondrement du communisme a marqué la fin du processus menant à l’avènement d’un monde où l’absolu n’a plus sa place. Le religieux, basé sur la tradition, le passé, la stabilité, tente, avec difficultés, de s’adapter aux conséquences de cette réalité politique : un espace en perpétuelle mutation et un temps dont le sens n’est plus ni normatif ni collectif, mais individuel. L’individualisation du croire et le phénomène de « religion à la carte » – adaptation sociale du religieux – induisent des modifications dans la place attribuée au religieux par le politique. La croyance est en mouvement, individualisée, et ainsi inscrite dans la réalité. Elle deviendrait ainsi, pour le politique, « une ressource neutre, disponible à des fins de gestion d’une recomposition multiforme ». Et si le politique s’attache à utiliser le religieux, il ne fait que révéler son propre malaise, son incapacité à définir son rapport au sens et à ces « identités mobiles et plurielles ». |

| Summary, etc. | Religion and politics in a world searching for its central meaning The collapse of communism indicates the end of the process heading towards a world where the absolute has no more place. Religion, based on tradition, past history and stability tries hard to adapt itself to the consequences of this political reality : a framework constantly changing and a shift in perspectives, from collective and normative to individual approaches. The individualization of beliefs and the phenomenon of « religion à la carte » inferred by the adaptation of the religious sphere to social issues bring about changes in the place the political field gives to religion. Belief is evolving, individualized and thus rooted in reality. It would thus become « a neutral resource which could be used to manage a multiform recombining » for the political sphere. In using religion, the political field shows its own uneasiness and inability to define its meaning and these « moving and plural identities ». |
