Aussi, rendre compte de la situation de l’Iran contemporain à trois ans de l’échéance du second mandat du président Mohammad Khatami revient, à bien des égards, à rédiger une chronique de l’exaspération des tensions. Ce constat intervient au moment où la mise en œuvre de réformes radicales devient urgente. À l’heure où les forces conservatrices font peser la menace du déclenchement de l’état d’urgence, en d’autres termes d’un coup d’État, le but de ce texte est d’offrir des repères de manière à saisir quelques-unes des lignes de fracture qui parcourent l’Iran contemporain et dont les déplacements – proches et certainement brusques – s’apprêtent à façonner l’Iran de demain. |

| Summary, etc. | The Islamic Republic in a Dead End Unlikely reforms and impossible status quo , such are the terms of Iran’s equation. Indeed, reporting on Iran’s situation today, three years before the end of President Mohammad Khatami’s second term of office, amounts to writing a chronicle of exacerbated tensions. This remark comes at a time when Iran is in urgent need of radical reforms. At a time when the conservatives threaten to introduce a state of emergency – in other words, to stage a state coup – the aim of the present text is to pinpoint some of the dividing lines that run across today’s Iran and that may soon shift abruptly, thus shaping tomorrow’s Iran. |
