| Summary, etc. | La restitution d’une enquête qualitative de grande ampleur, dans une thèse, un ouvrage ou un article scientifique, pose un certain nombre de problèmes spécifiques. Cet article examine celui de la forme générale à donner au texte : comment construire le récit ou les récits qui rendront compte de la recherche. Le choix de la structure de restitution des données et/ou des résultats est une question qui est beaucoup plus ouverte que dans le cas d’une enquête quantitative ; de plus, la stratégie narrative choisie est porteuse de sens et doit être conçue en fonction de la visée poursuivie. À ce problème, des solutions sont proposées, non pas comme des recettes à appliquer, mais comme des sources d’inspiration possibles. Délibérément, ces sources d’inspiration ont été recherchées dans des domaines éloignés des sciences de gestion, domaines pour lesquels ces questions de restitution sont cruciales. On utilisera ainsi des exemples tirés de la littérature, du journalisme d’investigation, de la photographie documentaire, et de la bande dessinée, en envisageant les possibles transpositions ou adaptations à des enquêtes en sciences de gestion. Ces sources d’inspiration et les suggestions qui en sont tirées ont pour objectif d’inciter les auteurs à s’affranchir, au moins partiellement, de la norme d’écriture admise, de manière à mieux valoriser leur recherche et ses apports. |

| Summary, etc. | Narrating qualitative research: some unconventional sources of inspirationWriting about a large, qualitative inquiry, whether in a dissertation, a book or a scientific article, raises a number of specific issues. This article explores the issues related to the building of the narrative(s) that will give an account of the research. The range of options for structuring this account (i.e. writing about the data and/or the findings) is much wider than in the case of a quantitative research ; moreover, the chosen narrative structure is in itself a way of conveying the meaning intended by the writer and has to be determined in this light. In this article, the proposed solutions to this issue should be taken as inspiring ideas rather than as ready-to-use recipes. These sources of inspiration have deliberately been drawn from fields that are foreign to business and management studies, fields in which these writing issues are crucial. Examples will be built from fiction writing, investigative journalism, documentary photography, and comics ; and we will discuss their transposition or adaptation to business and management research inquiries. With these sources of inspiration and the resulting suggestions, we invite authors to free themselves, at least partially, from the too easily accepted norms of scientific writing, so that they can make the best out of their research findings and contributions. |
