Summary, etc. | Reflexivity, which this exploratory research addressed in order to raise awareness of the meaning of courageous action, appears to be a promising avenue to support the development of managerial courage. Grounded in a collaborative approach, this study had two objectives for its participants: to collectively analyze moments of managerial courage while simultaneously enabling their self-learning. Its methodology invited participants to engage in a reflexive process and to take part in the data collection by interacting with the researcher’s theoretical framework and analysis. The originality of this approach lies in the connection of two apparently disparate concepts – managerial courage and reflexivity – to explore their potential for interaction and formative aggregation. The results presented in this article appear promising in terms of the links they weave between reflective practices and the development of awareness of the meaning of courageous action. Moreover, they may suggest ways of supporting reflective action in difficult or risky situations where personal integrity is at stake, as required by situations that call for managerial courage. Five central themes emerged in the course of the research as being able to support the exploration of the meaning of courageous action: professional identity; noble objectives; personal values and beliefs; obstacles to individual action; and sense of responsibility. The links identified between managerial courage and reflexivity open the door to future research into their implications and potential uses in organizations. |

Summary, etc. | La réflexivité, abordée par cette recherche exploratoire pour conscientiser le sens de l’action courageuse, apparaît comme piste à explorer pour soutenir le développement du courage managérial. Par son inspiration collaborative, cette recherche proposait deux objectifs distincts : analyser en groupe des moments vécus de courage managérial et simultanément, permettre une démarche d’autoformation aux participant·es gestionnaires. La méthodologie utilisée invitait les participant·es à vivre une démarche réflexive et à participer à la collecte de données en dialoguant avec le cadre théorique et l’analyse de la chercheuse. La mise en relation de deux concepts apparemment disjoints, soit le courage managérial et la réflexivité, pour en explorer le potentiel d’interaction et d’agrégation formatrice constitue l’originalité de la démarche. Les résultats présentés dans cet article apparaissent prometteurs par les liens qu’ils tissent entre les pratiques réflexives et le développement de la conscience du sens de l’action courageuse. Ils le sont davantage lorsqu’abordés comme manière de soutenir la mise en action réfléchie face à des situations difficiles ou risquées où l’intégrité personnelle est en jeu, telles que le demandent les actions qui appellent au courage managérial. Cinq thèmes centraux sont apparus au fil de la recherche comme pouvant soutenir l’exploration du sens de l’action courageuse : l’identité professionnelle ; les objectifs nobles ; les valeurs et croyances personnelles ; les freins personnels à l’action ; le sentiment de responsabilité. Les liens entre courage managérial et réflexivité ouvrent la porte à une démarche de recherche future pour en saisir les implications et usages potentiels dans les organisations. |
