520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Parenting educational strategies and mechanisms of academic success of Bamileke fostered children in FranceThe present article provides a perspective on intra-familial child-rearing processes encouraging, among other goals, the academic success of the Bamileke children (from the Cameroons) fostered by members of their family living in France. Our analysis examines the transposition of this traditional and informal practice in a socio-cultural environment where the mobility of children is formalized and regulated, and questions the impact of the migration about the evolution of the nature of the links parents/children so created. From 30 semi-directive interviews with the Bamileke protagonists of the fostering in France, this paper focuses on the child-rearing strategies of the foster parents, which associate their informal cultural references to the French methods and socio-educational values. The results show how these parents succeed in stimulating capacities and performances of the foster child, by creating a familial environment centered on school education, in an “impromptu” family framework, far from the biological parents. |
