520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | This contribution proposes a brief review of various ethnological and anthropological publications that, since Leach’s founding article in 1968, have opened a series of debates on the problematic of hair in anthropology. This review covers literature until the recent contribution of Bromberger in 2005. The author suggests the need to link the analysis of the behaviour and values attributed to human hair to the practices and beliefs that each cultural system holds about blood. Hair and blood should be seen as synonyms or, at least, as complementary to each other, and are to be analysed together. The perspective of a joint analysis gives the opportunity to go beyond explanations which take the human psyche as the only grounds for explanation. This approach allows for an anthropology of the components of persons, based on an analysis of the constituting elements of the human body. |
