520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Social anthropology and veterinary medicine were born as disciplines around the same period as answers to the Industrial Revolution. This presentation draws connexions between major animal diseases striking public opinion and the main works of social anthropology : Spencer and cattle plague, Robertson Smith and tuberculosis, Durkheim and smallpox, Lévi-Strauss and Mad Cow Disease. This volume presents a set of papers, starting with bird flu, the most mediatic animal disease in the years 2000 in industrialized countries, to investigate other animal diseases in other contexts. |
