Cet article s’intéresse aux fonctions de pépinières des jardins botaniques coloniaux au xixe siècle et à la manière dont s’organise le commerce des plantes par le biais de ces institutions. L’analyse des modalités de distribution et de vente des plantes, le rôle des productions scientifiques et des directeurs dans l’organisation de ce commerce, ainsi que les débats récurrents sur la valeur marchande de ces plantes, font surgir un pan méconnu de la gouvernementalité coloniale dans son rapport à la maîtrise de la nature. |

This paper examines the nursery functions of colonial botanical gardens in the 19th century and how the trade in plants was organized through these institutions. The analysis of the modalities of distribution and sale of plants, the role of scientific productions and directors in the organization of this trade, as well as the recurrent debates on the market value of these plants, reveal a little-known aspect of colonial governmentality in its relationship to the control of nature. |
