| Summary, etc. | The October 17, 1961 demonstration in Paris organized by Algeria’s Front de libération nationale (FLN) is no longer a “missing day”. The repression carried out by the French authorities, with hundreds of victims (killed or wounded), is integrated into a more general analysis of so-called counter-insurgency practices carried out by police forces in France. Based on a review of international literature and an unpublished survey of Parisian court archives, this article has a threefold objective : to offer a historiographical essay on this “state massacre” in a colonial situation ; to look beyond the memorial framework that continues to set the main interpretative lines ; to place “October 1961” in a “sortie de guerre” context, in which “enforced disappearances” and demographic engineering practices (expulsions, population displacements, etc.) were among the many forms of violence. |

| Summary, etc. | La manifestation du 17 octobre 1961 organisée par le Front de libération nationale (FLN) de l’Algérie, à Paris, n’est plus une « journée portée disparue ». La répression alors exercée par les autorités françaises, au prix de centaines de victimes (tués ou blessés), est intégrée à une analyse plus générale des pratiques dites contre-insurrectionnelles menée par les forces de police en métropole. Fondé sur un bilan de la littérature internationale et une enquête inédite dans les archives des juridictions parisiennes, cet article vise à un triple objectif : proposer un essai historiographique relatif à ce « massacre d’État » en situation coloniale ; appréhender ces journées en dépassant le cadre mémoriel qui continue d’en fixer les principales lignées interprétatives ; inscrire « octobre 1961 » dans une « sortie de guerre » dont les « disparitions forcées » et des pratiques d’ingénierie démographique (expulsions, déplacements de populations…) comptaient au nombre des violences multiples. |
