| Summary, etc. | This article looks at how the authors of American techno-thrillers represented and portrayed NATO from 1986 to 2000, at a time when the bipolar order was coming to an end and a new order was still emerging. The methodological framework proposed by Alex MacLeod is used here. Through contextualization, intertextualization and deconstruction/reconstruction, the aim is to analyze this moment of transition for the Alliance, based on biased cultural artifacts. The article unfolds in four movements. The first is a definitional and methodological effort. The second examines how NATO was represented at the end of the Cold War. The last two deal with interregnum fictions, segmenting them into two themes: those that envisage NATO’s enlargement, and those that imagine its disappearance. JEL Code: Z19 |

| Summary, etc. | Cet article s’intéresse à la manière dont des auteurs de techno-thrillers américains ont représenté et se sont représentés l’OTAN de 1986 à 2000, à un moment où l’ordre bipolaire prenait fin et où un nouvel ordre commençait à prendre forme. Pour ce faire, le cadre méthodologique proposé par Alex MacLeod est repris. Au travers d’une contextualisation, d’une intertextualisation et d’une déconstruction/reconstruction, l’enjeu est d’analyser ce moment de transition pour l’Alliance à partir d’artefacts culturels biaisés. L’article se déploie en quatre mouvements. Le premier est le lieu d’un effort définitionnel et méthodologique. Le deuxième examine la façon dont l’OTAN était représentée à la fin de la Guerre froide. Les deux derniers s’intéressent aux fictions d’interrègne en les segmentant en deux thèmes : celles qui pensent l’élargissement de l’OTAN et celles qui imaginent sa disparition. |
