Summary, etc. ‪The invasion of Ukraine in March 2022 triggered a major population movement towards European countries – “the fastest refugee crisis in Europe since the Second World War”. In response, the European Union implemented Directive 2001/55/EC granting temporary protection to all Ukrainians. In the press discourse, comparisons with the events of 2015 (the migration crisis, the reception crisis, etc.) are omnipresent, from the “shift in paradigm” to the “double standard”. This contribution studies the way in which the same noun phrase (NP) the crisis constructs these two migration events differently, and the extent to which the framing of events linked to Ukraine in 2022 truly constitutes a break in migration policy. Based on a corpus of Belgian press articles, the analysis is divided into two parts: an analysis of the meaning and reference of the NP the crisis and how it operates in this new migration context, and an analysis of the other terms used in press discourse to refer to the events linked to Ukraine. The results of the analysis highlight the polyreferential and sometimes vague usage of the NP the crisis on the one hand, and its substitution by other NPs (the war, the conflict and the struggle) on the other. In the corpus, the NP the crisis does not refer solely to the migratory phenomenon and focuses mainly on the consequences of the event itself. The usage of the NPs the war, the conflict and the struggle also shows a desire to frame the events as such, reactivating the discursive memory of previous wars and thus legitimising the reception of Ukrainian refugees within the European Union.‪
