D’une quasi-absence des écrans sous un régime fasciste qui exalte pourtant les anciens combattants et leurs valeurs patriotiques, la Première Guerre mondiale revient en force dans le cinéma populaire italien dans les années 1945-1950 pour figurer l’unité d’un pays qui s’est déchiré durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Il faudra attendre La Grande Guerra de Mario Monicelli en 1959 pour en proposer une comédie distanciée, quand Francesco Rosi dix ans plus tard en livrera une version imprégnée de marxisme : la Première Guerre mondiale est une guerre de classes. |

| Summary, etc. | The film representations of the First World War by Italian cinema have undergone a constant evolution marked by the country’s political life. From a virtual absence of screens under a fascist regime that nevertheless exalted veterans and their patriotic values, the First World War returned in force in Italian popular cinema in the years 1945-1950 to represent the unity of a country that had been torn apart during the Second World War. It was not until Mario Monicelli’s La Grande Guerra in 1959 that a distant comedy was presented, when Francesco Rosi ten years later delivered a version impregnated with Marxism: the First World War was a class war. |
