| Summary, etc. | RésuméLe succès de la notion de « contrôle » proposée par Deleuze, puis développée par Negri et Hardt, tend aujourd’hui à escamoter son origine littéraire, l’œuvre de William S. Burroughs. Or, la logique du Contrôle chez l’écrivain américain repose sur la même représentation ambivalente du pouvoir comme emprise, consistant à faire de la liberté accordée à chacun le levier par lequel agir sur ses actions possibles. Restaurer cette filiation burroughsienne du Contrôle permet d’en valoriser la dimension contre-fictionnelle : dans un monde sans « dehors », des pratiques comme le cut-up ou le simulacre réinventent notre capacité d’action. |

| Summary, etc. | The success of the notion of “control” proposed by Deleuze and later developed by Negri and Hardt tends to obliterate its literary origins, i.e., the work of William S. Burroughs. Yet, the American writer’s logic of Control is based on the same ambivalent representation of power as a hold, according to which freedom is a mere lever destined to act upon an individual’s possible actions. Restoring this Burroughsian filiation of Control emphasizes its counter-fictional dimension: in a world deprived of any Outside, practices such as cut-up or simulacrum reinvent our capacity to act. |
