| Summary, etc. | Deux monastères bénédictins se sont implantés au nord-ouest de la capitale burkinabè en 1963. À cette époque, leur terrain se trouvait en pleine brousse, tandis qu’il est aujourd’hui limitrophe d’exploitations agricoles et de projets immobiliers. L’espace monastique représente le dernier territoire boisé et protégé de la zone, convoité autant par les jeunes villageois que par l’agrobusiness. L’article décrit comment moines et moniales s’impliquent pour assurer la maîtrise foncière de leur terrain, à la fois par la certification juridique et par une préservation du milieu naturel et des écosystèmes. L’amélioration des infrastructures, l’intensification agricole et la promotion nationale de l’agrobusiness, l’adoption de nouvelles technologies initiées par les deux monastères pour le bien-être de la population et la continuité des communautés monastiques, les réformes agraires et politiques de décentralisation ont profondément modifié la configuration de la région. Ces changements génèrent et alimentent des tensions entre les villageois et les moines autour de la question foncière. |

| Summary, etc. | Two Benedictine monasteries were established north-west of the Burkinabe capital in 1963. Their land was then in the middle of the bush, while today, it borders on farms and real estate projects. The monastic property represents the last wooded and protected land in the area, coveted by young villagers and agribusinessmen alike. The article describes how monks and nuns are involved in securing their property rights on the land and their commitment to preserving its natural environment and ecosystems. The improvement of infrastructure, agricultural intensification, national promotion of agribusiness, the adoption of new technologies initiated by the two monasteries for the population’s well-being, and the continuity of monastic communities, Agrarian reforms and decentralization policies have profoundly changed the shape of the region. These changes generate and fuel tensions between villagers and monks over the land question. |
