| Summary, etc. | Grand bassin de production caféière jusqu’à la fin des années 1980, le groupement de villages de Balessing, dans l’Ouest Cameroun, est aujourd’hui un important bassin de production maraîchère. Cette mutation a entraîné le recours croissant au salariat comme stratégie de production au sein des exploitations agricoles de la localité. Ce texte documente ce phénomène en s’intéressant aux conditions de vie et de travail des salarié.e.s en question. Il montre que, si le salariat agricole contribue à la croissance de la production agricole de cette localité à travers la hausse des rendements et une amélioration substantielle des revenus des producteurs, il ne garantit pas pour autant la stabilisation d’une meilleure situation socioéconomique pour les travailleurs et travailleuses. |

| Summary, etc. | A major coffee production area until the end of the 1980s, the Balessing group of villages in West Cameroon is now an important market garden production area. This change has led to increasing wage labor as a production strategy on the local farms. This paper documents this phenomenon by looking at the living and working conditions of the employees in question. It shows that, although agricultural wage labor contributes to the growth of agricultural production in this locality through increased yields and a substantial improvement in producers’ incomes, it does not guarantee the stabilization of a better socio-economic situation for the workers. |
