| Summary, etc. | L’enseignement privé est un acteur ancien et central du développement de l’éducation en Afrique Subsaharienne. Si la frontière entre privé et public est floue et la mesure difficile, les statistiques disponibles montrent une forte hétérogénéité de situation entre pays, mais une part globalement importante et en augmentation des effectifs pris en charge par des opérateurs privés. Un certain nombre de facteurs d’offre et de demande explique cette situation et la très grande diversité des opérateurs de l’éducation privée en Afrique Subsaharienne. Ce contexte associé aux externalités à la fois positives et négatives du développement de l’enseignement privé appelle à une prise de conscience et une redéfinition du rôle des États. | Summary, etc. | Private Education and Education Development in sub-Saharan Africa : Private education is an old and central actor in the development of education in sub-Saharan Africa. While the boundary between private and public education is imprecise and the measure difficult, the statistics available show a strong heterogeneity of situation between countries, but a large and increasing share of the children enrolled in school manage by private operators. Some supply and demand factors explain this situation and the wide diversity of private education operators in sub-Saharan Africa. This context associated with the positive and negative externalities of the development of private education calls for awareness and a redefinition of the role of the States. |
