Summary, etc. La fabrique des dirigeants, des managers ou des patrons relève d’un double processus : formel et informel. Nombre d’entre eux sont des autodidactes même si au regard de leur biographie éducative, les modèles des business schools ou des écoles d’ingénieurs deviennent de plus en plus prégnants. C’est la raison pour laquelle, il importe de repérer quel type de rapports ces dirigeants entretiennent avec la formation. Par ailleurs, ils sont un certain nombre à se définir comme patrons, managers ou cadres. Ce flou sémantique mérite d’être interrogé. Un manager n’est pas toujours un patron, un cadre ne devient pas systématiquement un dirigeant. C’est pourquoi il est utile de proposer une typologie dans le but d’identifier différentes catégories de managers. Quel que soit leur profil, ces dirigeants se trouveront confrontés à la nécessité de relever trois défis : fabriquer du sens, agir sur autrui et donner à voir.

Summary, etc. The making of leaders, managers or employers is a twofold process: formal and informal. Many of them are self-taught persons, even though the models of Business Schools or Engineering Schools are becoming more and more prominent when it comes to their educational biographies. This is the reason why it is important to identify the kind of relationship these leaders have towards training. Moreover, there are quite a few who define themselves as bosses, managers or executives. This blurred semantics deserves to be questioned. A manager is not always a boss, an executive does not systematically become a manager. That is why it is useful to suggest a typology in order to identify different categories of managers. Whatever their profiles, these leaders will find themselves confronted with the necessity to face three challenges: making sense, acting on others and giving to see.
