Summary, etc. | Depuis le début du XXe siècle, les normes de l’apprentissage de la propreté sphinctérienne ont considérablement changé en remplaçant le contrôle disciplinaire du corps par les conceptions éducatives non-coercitives et individualisées. L’article s’intéresse à la logique de ces changements et relève, en s’appuyant sur l’analyse des manuels de puériculture, les reconfigurations graduelles des normes. Trois modèles de l’éducation seront décrits mettant au jour une transformation de l’engagement maternel, ainsi que – plus globalement – le basculement vers « l’informalisation » des rapports parents-enfants. Malgré les changements de forme, l’excellence parentale reste toujours connectée à l’investissement temporel. |

Summary, etc. | Since the early 20th century, the standards of toilet training have considerably changed replacing disciplinarian control of the body with non-coercive and individualized educational conceptions. Based on the analysis of childcare advice books, the article studies the logic of these changes highlighting gradual reconfigurations of child-rearing principles. Three educational models will be described, revealing transformations of mother’s engagement, as well as – more generally – the shift towards “informalization” of parent-child relationships. Despite changing forms, the excellence of parental behavior remains connected to the investment of time. |
