| Summary, etc. | In Tunisia, to preserve their virginity, some young girls are subjected from childhood to “tasfih,” a magico-religious practice aimed at making them inviolable by preventing any sexual penetration before marriage, whether consensual or forced. This article presents a clinical vignette analyzing the case of “Meriem,” a young single mother, within the framework of clinical research we conducted on the suffering of single mothers in Tunisia, resulting from social and familial rejection related to their out-of-wedlock pregnancies. The data were collected through semi-structured clinical interviews. Meriem’s case highlights the cultural and social complexity of the female condition in Tunisian and Maghrebi society, as well as the “obsession” of some traditional Tunisian families with preserving their daughters’ virginity until marriage, to the point of “controlling” their bodies through “tasfih.” |

| Summary, etc. | En Tunisie, pour préserver leur virginité, certaines jeunes filles sont soumises dès l’enfance au « tasfih », une pratique magico-religieuse visant à les rendre inviolables en empêchant toute pénétration sexuelle avant le mariage, qu’elle soit consentie ou forcée. Cet article présente une vignette clinique analysant le cas de « Meriem », une jeune mère célibataire, dans le cadre d’une recherche clinique que nous avons menée sur la souffrance des mères célibataires en Tunisie, résultant du rejet social et familial lié à leur grossesse hors mariage. Les données ont été recueillies par le biais d’entretiens cliniques semi-directifs. Le cas de Meriem met en lumière la complexité culturelle et sociale de la condition féminine dans la société tunisienne et maghrébine, ainsi que l’« obsession » de certaines familles traditionnelles tunisiennes à préserver la virginité de leur fille jusqu’au mariage, au point de « contrôler » son corps par le « tasfih ». |
