| Summary, etc. | Quatre récits emblématiques d’E. T. A. Hoffmann (1776-1822) issus des Frères de Saint-Sérapion, des Contes fantastiques ou des Tableaux nocturnes mettent en perspective le regard romantique et éclairé de l’écrivain allemand. Ce dernier porte un regard à la fois critique sur la société et fasciné sur les prouesses techniques de son temps, semblant entrer en dissonance avec le monde merveilleux d’un âge d’or perdu ( Casse-Noisette), faisant apparaître le visage maléfique du magnétiseur ( Les Automates et Le Magnétiseur) et soulignant l’échec de l’esthétique mécanique ( Le Marchand de sable). Il est intéressant de voir comment la perception hoffmannienne de ces phénomènes trouve sa place dans les interrogations contemporaines sur le rôle et la place de l’Homme et de ses créations artificielles. |

| Summary, etc. | E. T. A. Hoffmann’s four symbolic stories (1776-1822) from The Serapion Brethren, The Fantastic Tales or The Strange Stories put into perspective the romantic and enlightened gaze of the German writer. He criticises society, but he is also fascinated by the feats of technology of his time, which are not concomitant with the wonderful world of a lost Golden Age (The Nutcracker). This reveals the evil face of the Magnetizer (The Automata and The Magnetizer) and highlights the failure of mechanical aesthetics (The Sandman). It is interesting to see how E. T. A. Hoffmann’s vision of these phenomena finds its place in contemporary questions about the function and place of the human being and his/her artificial creations. |
