Cet article invite, à travers une étude empirique, à analyser les liens entre discours et pratiques, mais aussi à évaluer l’impact de ces dernières en fonction de la configuration stratégique en Irak. Loin de conclure à la condamnation ou à l’hyperbole concernant les modes d’action militaire américains en Irak, il montre comment ceux-ci ont évolué et agit dans le contexte de relations de pouvoir. |

| Summary, etc. | An “Impotent Power”: A Sociological Study of the American Counter-Insurgency Tactic in IraqThe American Counterinsurgency in Iraq suffers from an often superficial analysis with regards to critical matters such as its strengths and weaknesses, its successes and limitations. This paper illustrates the necessity of analyzing empirical evidences in order to see how practices relate to discourses and simultaneously shape and are shaped by the sociopolitical context in Iraq. Far from concluding that Counterinsurgency has to be forgotten or seen as a silver bullet in its own right, this article shows how American military courses of action in Iraq evolved and acted in a specific strategic context characterized by power relations. |
