| Summary, etc. | Château-Renault et Surgères sont deux territoires industriels de l’Ouest France qui se sont construits autour du tannage pour la première et de la transformation du lait pour la seconde. Ces industries transforment des produits d’origine animale provenant de l’agriculture. Elles peuvent être qualifiées « d’industries animales ». Ces deux territoires sont situés dans l’ouest de la France, où l’industrialisation est réputée être plus tardive que dans le reste du pays. L’article étudie le mécanisme à l’œuvre derrière le développement de ces industries dans des régions globalement peu industrialisées. La relation entre les ressources locales, notamment l’agriculture, et le développement d’une forme spécifique d’industrialisation sont au cœur de l’émergence de ces industries animales. |

| Summary, etc. | The author of this paper intends to compare two industrial territories from western France : Chateau-Renault and Surgères. Chateau-Renault is a tanning center, and the city of Surgères houses a vast dairy. The industries of both areas deal with products of animal origins deriving from agriculture. They could be named « animal industries ». Besides, both areas are located in the west of France, where industrialization lagged behind the rest of the country.The author will study the mechanism at work behind the development of those industries in a region with very little industry overall. The relationship between local resources, notably agriculture, and the development of a specific form of industrialization are central to the emergence of those animal industries.
