Théoriser la complexité sociale » a été publié pour la première fois en 1992, conjointement à une série d’autres sur les développements de la théorie féministe. Il note les difficultés des théories sociales traditionnelles à rendre compte, notamment, des processus sociaux à grande échelle, mais récuse les réponses offertes par les postmodernistes. Sont mis en exergue la nécessité d’une perspective globale — point qui n’est pas repris ici — et le besoin permanent de théoriser le changement social pris dans son ensemble, en termes de classe et d’inégalité. Cet article a joué un rôle précurseur dans les productions récentes sur la théorie de la complexité. |

| Summary, etc. | ‘Post-post-modernism? Theorizing social complexity’ was first published in 1992 as part of a collection of papers discussing developments in feminist theory. It recognises the difficulties with traditional theories of society, especially with respect to large scale social processes, but refuses the post-modernist response to these problems. It insists on the need for a global horizon (although this section is cut from this new edition) and for the continuing need to theorise large scale social change, class and inequality. This article was a forerunner of recent work on complexity theory. |

Teorizar la complejidad social » fue publicado por la primera vez en 1992, conjuntamente a una serie de otros sobre los desarrollos de la teoría feminista. Este apunta las dificultades que tienen las teorías sociales tradicionales para dar cuenta, en particular, de los procesos sociales a gran escala, pero recusa las respuestas dadas por las posmodernistas. Se ponen en evidencia la necesidad de una perspectiva global — punto que no es retomado aquí — y la necesidad permanente de teorizar el cambio social en su conjunto, en términos de clase y de desigualdad.
