Summary, etc. | Le développement personnel est un phénomène social, économique et culturel, qui a gagné droit de cité dans de nombreux domaines, et en particulier dans les sphères de l’entreprise et du travail. Au-delà des différentes formes qu’il peut prendre, le message moral qu’il porte est qu’il est possible, pour tout individu et quelle que soit la situation problématique dans laquelle il se trouve, de découvrir en lui des ressources qui permettent d’accéder à un mieux-être individuel, voire collectif. Cette idée, aujourd’hui si banale, est le fruit d’une histoire que cet article retrace, tout en interrogeant, d’un point de vue sociologique, ce qu’elle signifie et implique. |

Summary, etc. | Performance and authenticity, individual and global changes : a sociological perspective on some so-called paradoxes of the self-help movementSelf-help is a social, economic and cultural phenomenon, which has had an increasing importance in several domains, and in particular in the business area. Besides the various forms it can take, its moral message is that it is possible, for each individual and whatever the problems/he may know, to discover in herself or himself resources that make it possible to reach individual and even collective well-being. This idea, which is so common today, is nonetheless the consequence of a history. This article presents this history, and investigates, from a sociological point of view, its meaning and implications. |
