| Summary, etc. | RésuméLe mont Aiguille en Trièves, considéré au Moyen Âge comme une merveille en raison de son inaccessibilité, est gravi en 1492 sur ordre du roi Charles VIII. La ressemblance est manifeste entre les descriptions du sommet proposées par les grimpeurs et les représentations contemporaines du jardin d’Éden. Cette ascension apparaît ainsi comme la conquête d’un symbole, qui, par elle, s’incarne et devient lieu. Elle sera à maintes reprises évoquée par la suite, de Rabelais à Restif de La Bretonne, en passant par les récits populaires locaux, comme l’acte condamnable par lequel un monarque orgueilleux a tenté d’affirmer son essence divine. |

| Summary, etc. | The mont Aiguille in Trièves, considered as a miracle in the Middle Ages because of its inaccessibility, was first climbed in 1492 on order of king Charles VIII. The descriptions of the top by the climbers and the representations of the Garden of Eden of that time are very similar. This ascent thus, seems the conquest, the incarnation of a symbol, and becomes “ lieu”. Later, it will on several occasions be mentioned, from Rabelais to Restif de La Bretonne, and in local popular narratives, as a condemnable act on the part of a proud monarch who tried to affirm his divine nature. |
