520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Reflections on the Body and Passivity in Montaigne. The author of this article examines an alternative approach to the ‘psychosomatic field’ of the genealogy of passions in a conceptual pre-Cartesian context and through the works of Montaigne. Within the framework of the complexity of the intensely emotional phenomenon which Montaigne explores throughout the length and breadth of his Essays, the originary core of affectivity appears in an unprecedented guise in moral philosophy. By listening attentively to his own body, Montaigne experiences the impulsive dynamics which constitute each individual and the multiple meanings this brings. This discovery is not without consequence – it increases the scope of our knowledge of self over and beyond conscious life and enables us to explore a number of moral questions in their direct relationship with our somatic existence. |
