| Summary, etc. | L’étude de l’œuvre de David Nebreda, uniquement consacrée à des autoportraits photographiques, nous confronte à une néo-réalité inquiétante. L’auto-destruction s’expose à même le corps de l’artiste lacéré, rachitique. La peau part en lambeau sous les coups d’un homme qui semble chercher perpétuellement à se faire disparaître. Que signifie cette auto-mutilation aussi régulée, inflexible, comme semblant faire partie d’un sacrifice rituel, d’un travail d’annihilation, se dévoilant sous la forme d’un témoignage photographique ? Ses écrits éclairent encore davantage son travail artistique et interrogent quant à un sentiment de non-être premier chez Nebreda ; les problématiques d’un délire d’auto-engendrement, d’informe psychique, de naissance non-désirée et de volonté de ne pas être né transparaissent également de cette création, dernier souffle d’une pulsion de vie défaillante. |

| Summary, etc. | David Nebreda – Skin in Shreds and a Sense of Not ExistingDavid Nebreda’s work, entirely composed of photographic self-portraits, confronts us with a disquieting neo-reality. The artist’s lacerated, puny body is an eloquent expression of self-destruction. His skin seems to be falling away in shreds, as the artist untiringly works towards his own annihilation. What does this well-regulated, unyielding form of self-mutilation mean? Is it part of some ritual sacrifice, a means of total destruction of self, to which the photographs bear witness? Nebreda’s writings shed light on his art work and explore the artist’s intense sense of not-being; such questions as self-engenderment fantasises, psychical shapelessness, being unwanted at birth and the desire never to have been born also arise, in the last breath of the artist’s ever-weakening life instinct. |
