| Summary, etc. | À travers la passion pour l’horreur traduite dans les œuvres de l’expressionnisme allemand (1919-1930), l’auteur propose d’interroger les mutations actuelles des représentations du corps. Le trauma qui résulta de la première guerre mondiale se transforma sur les toiles expressionnistes en corps démembrés, en pantins bardés de ferraille, tout en dénonçant la folie et l’absurdité de cette guerre. En à peine quatre années, ils passèrent de l’exaltation du progrès à la dénonciation d’une civilisation technicienne au travers d’un corps déglorifié et mécanisé. Cent ans plus tard, un regard très différent s’est imposé. Aujourd’hui, ce thème de l’homme-machine ne renvoie plus aux horreurs d’un conflit mais à une vision hédoniste du corps. |

| Summary, etc. | The Passion for Death and the Monstrous in German Expressionist Painting (1919-1930). The author of this article explores the passion for horror expressed in works of the German Expressionist movement (1919-1930) to examine current developments in representations of the body today. The trauma resulting from World War I found its expression in the dismembered bodies and iron-clad puppets of Expressionist canvasses, denouncing the madness and absurdity of war. In the space of only four years, these artists went from an exaltation of progress to the denunciation of a technological civilisation through representations of deglorified, mechanised bodies. One hundred years later, a very different view has come to the forefront. Today, the theme of the man-machine no longer rhymes with that of the horrors of military conflict but with that of a hedonistic vision of the body. |
