| Summary, etc. | Après une catastrophe extrême, telle un génocide, selon quelles modalités la transmission peut-elle s’effectuer ? Dans la transmission normale, c’est la famille qui doit servir d’interface entre la réalité psychique interne et la réalité sociale externe, en assurant pour les membres qui la composent des tâches de contenance, transformation, liaison et transmission. L’auteure propose le concept de famille survivante pour désigner une famille, qui du fait d’une catastrophe collective survenue à la génération précédente, ne parvient plus à assurer son rôle d’instance médiatrice entre le sujet et le social, ce qui entrave l’accès à la subjectivité de ses membres. Une vignette clinique illustrera quelques-uns des aspects de la communication de ces familles, les difficultés de différenciation, et l’intolérance à l’affect, qui se traduit par une incapacité à ressentir et exprimer les affects, que l’on peut qualifier d’alexithymie groupale. |

| Summary, etc. | Refusing a Legacy – Transmission in the Light of Genocide In the wake of a human catastrophe as extreme as genocide, how can we define the ways in which such a legacy is transmitted ? In normal circumstances, the family serves as an interface between internal psychical reality and external social reality, and defines for each member a role in holding, transforming, binding and transmitting the elements of its legacy. The author of this article posits the concept of the surviving family as one which, in the wake of a collective catastrophe endured by a preceding generation, fails to perform this mediating role between the individual and society, thereby preventing family members from attaining their own subjectivity. A clinical case illustrates a number of characteristics specific to how such families communicate and sheds light on the difficulty its members have not only in differentiating themselves, but also their refusal of emotion and incapability to feel and express emotion, defined here as a form of group alexithymia. |
