| Summary, etc. | Le massacre de Whitestone Hill en 1863 a fait plusieurs centaines de morts parmi les groupes dakota qui migraient alors entre la rivière James et le Missouri. J’examine ici ce qui arrive lorsque certains de ces morts entrent en contact avec un de leur descendant, Joel, affilié à la réserve de Standing Rock. Je retrace pour cela plusieurs voyages entrepris avec lui en 2019 afin d’éclairer la présence nouvelle de ces ancêtres. Parcourus dans la certitude que « quelque chose était en train de se passer » et l’incertitude sur l’attitude à adopter face à ce surgissement, ces itinéraires révèlent la manière dont Joel s’est efforcé de socialiser ces aïeux. Sa trajectoire suggère à la fois une ethnographie de la parenté et des esprits, et de l’improvisation. |

| Summary, etc. | Several hundreds of Dakotas were massacred at Whitestone Hill in 1863, in present-day North Dakota. In this article I endeavor to show what happens after some of these victims attempted, in 2017, to contact one of their descendant, Joel, a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. A participant in some of the trips that Joel took in 2019 to address the problems raised by the irruption of his massacred forebears, I propose to retrace these itineraries and show how, certain that something was happening but unclear as to how he should deal with it, Joel still found ways to make room for his ancestors in his world. Half-ethnography of kinship, half-ethnography of spirits, this paper especially tries to address the problem of improvisation. |

| Summary, etc. | Das Whitestone Hill Massaker von 1863 forderte mehrere hundert Tote unter den Dakota-Volksgruppen, die zwischen dem James River und dem Missouri River lebten. Der Beitrag untersucht, was passiert, wenn einige dieser Toten mit einem ihrer Nachfahren in Kontakt treten: Joel, der dem Standing Rock Reservat angehört. Zu diesem Zweck zeichne ich mehrere Reisen nach, die ich 2019 mit Joel unternommen habe, in denen er das neuerliche Auftauchen seiner getöteten Vorfahren beleuchten wollte. In der Gewissheit, dass „etwas passiert“, und der Ungewissheit, wie man auf dieses Auftauchen reagieren sollte, verdeutlichen diese Reiserouten die Art und Weise, wie Joel versucht, diese Vorfahren zu sozialisieren und ihnen in seiner Welt Raum zu geben. Sein Vorgehen legt zugleich eine Ethnographie der Verwandtschaft und der Geister sowie Improvisation nahe. |
