| Summary, etc. | L’objet de l’étude est d’insister sur la persistance du droit comme registre décisif de légitimation du pouvoir politique, et ce par comparaison avec d’autres registres, en particulier ceux désignés comme politique et moral. La perspective part de l’élaboration d’un tableau synthétisant la littérature existante en systématisant les types d’arguments qui peuvent, au sein d’une société libérale, être avancés pour légitimer une autorité, un acte ou une décision de celle-ci. Cette typologie vise à rendre compte de l’utili¬sation effective de registres de légitimité par les autorités politiques dans des situations concrètes et, dans ce contexte, à démontrer le caractère toujours décisif de l’argument légaliste. |

| Summary, etc. | The Persistence of Legalist Arguments : Elements for a Contemporary Typology of Modes of Legitimacy in a Liberal SocietyThis article focuses on the persistence of law as a decisive register of the legitimisation of political power, in comparison to other registers of legitimisation, notably those described as political or moral. The analysis starts with the elaboration of a table which synthesises the existing literature by cataloguing the various types of arguments which can be invoked, in a liberal society, to legitimise an authority or an act or decision of such an authority. This typology aims at identifying actual uses of various modes of legitimisation by political authorities in concrete situations and, in this context, to underline the persistent decisive nature of legalist arguments. |
