| Summary, etc. | Dans la dernière décennie, une « préoccupation sociale» face à la délinquance est apparue dans de nombreux pays occidentaux suite à la diffusion, dans de larges pans de leur population, d’un sentiment d’insécurité personnelle, accompagné de la perception d’une très sérieuse augmentation de la délinquance et du risque de victimation. La Suisse a longtemps fait figure d’un pays épargné par la délinquance. Cette perception irénique persiste-t-elle, alors que les médias locaux et ceux des pays voisins se sont emparés du thème de l’insécurité? En reconceptualisant le sentiment d’insécurité comme un élément d’un système de représentations plus large touchant à l’intensité de la délinquance perçue, à ses causes, ses acteurs et ses formes, cet article montre, sur la base d’un échantillon représentatif de la population résidant en Suisse francophone, que quatre champs représentationnels de la délinquance s’opposent actuellement les uns aux autres, révélant la présence d’attitudes fondamentalement différentes face à la modernité. |

| Summary, etc. | In the last decade, a « social preoccupation « for crime has emerged in numerous Western countries, following the spread of a feeling of personal insecurity, along with the perception of a great increase of crime rates and of risks of victimation, in large sections of their population. Switzerland has looked for a long time as a country spared by crime. Does this perception persist, while local media as well as those of neighbouring countries have seized the issue of insecurity? In reconceptualizing the fear of crime as but one element of a wider system of representations referring to the intensity of perceived crime, its causes, actors and forms, this article shows, on the basis of a representative sample of the resident population of the French-speaking part of Switzerland, that four main representations of delinquency compete, which reveal the presence of fundamentally different attitudes toward modernity. |

| Summary, etc. | En la última década ha surgido en numerosos países occidentales una « preocupación social» frente a la delincuencia. Esta preocupación encuentra su origen en la difusión, en vastos sectores de la población, de un sentimiento de inseguridad personal acompañado de la percepción de un fuerte aumento de la delincuencia y del riesgo de victimización. Durante mucho tiempo, Suiza ha dado la imagen de ser un país sin problemas de delincuencia. Sin embargo, cabe preguntarse si esta imagen se mantiene ahora que los medios de comunicación tanto en Suiza como en los países que la rodean se han apropiado del tema de la seguridad. Este artículo reconceptualiza el sentimiento de inseguridad como un elemento más de un sistema de representaciones más amplio vinculado a la intensidad de la delincuencia percibida, a sus causas, sus actores y sus formas. De esta forma, a partir de una muestra representativa de la población residente en la Suiza francófona, se demuestra que actualmente pueden identificarse cuatro campos de representación de la delincuencia que se oponen unos a otros y ponen de manifiesto la existencia de actitudes fundamentalmente diferentes frente a la modernidad. |

| Summary, etc. | In der letzten Dekade ist Kriminalität in vielen westlichen Ländern zu einer « sozialen Hauptsorge» geworden, die begleitet ist von einer Ausweitung personeller Unsicherheiten zusammen mit der Wahrnehmung steigender Kriminalitätsraten und wachsender Viktimisierungsrisiken in weiten Teilen der Bevölkerung. Die Schweiz wurde lange Zeit als ein Land angesehen, das von dieser Entwicklung ausgespart geblieben ist. Hält diese Wahrnehmung auch heute noch an, angesichts dessen, dass sich die lokalen und europäischen Medienberichterstattungen des Themas Sicherheit bemächtigt haben? Indem Kriminalitätsfurcht als ein Element der Repräsentation von Kriminalität neben Auffassungen zu ihrer Verbreitung, ihren Ursachen sowie ihren Akteuren und Formen konzeptualisiert wird, zeigt dieser Artikel auf der Basis einer Repräsentativbefragung in der französischen Schweiz vier gegensätzliche Felder von Einstellungen der Moderne auf. |
