| Summary, etc. | The theme of the ages of life emerges as a relevant interpretive framework for the work of Robert Holcot, a Dominican friar who died in 1349. Holcot knows above all three ages: childhood (pueritia), youth (iuventus), and old age (senectus). In his Introitus to a lost commentary on the Genesis, he draws on medical theories inherited from Galen, Avicenna, but also Aristotle, who define old age as a process of cooling. In his commentary on the Book of Wisdom, lectio 54, he takes up in extenso Aristotle’s portrait of youth in the Rhetoric, which he interprets as a text of moral philosophy. The rhetorical framework established by Holcot in the texts studied outlines, in an almost humanistic way, a reflection of his own academic community, as it is mirrored in its sociological composition and its pedagogical and moral objectives, through the lens of its scientific and literary sources. |

| Summary, etc. | Le thème des âges de la vie se révèle comme une grille de lecture pertinente de l’œuvre de Robert Holcot, frère prêcheur mort en 1349. Holcot connaît surtout trois âges : l’enfance (pueritia), la jeunesse (iuventus) et la vieillesse (senectus). Dans son Introitus à un commentaire perdu de la Genèse, il emprunte aux théories médicales héritées de Galien, d’Avicenne, mais aussi d’Aristote, qui définissent la vieillesse comme un refroidissement. Dans son commentaire à la Sagesse, lectio 54, il reprend in extenso le portrait des jeunes brossé par Aristote dans la Rhétorique, qu’il lit comme un texte de philosophie morale. Le dispositif rhétorique mis en place par Holcot dans les textes étudiés esquisse, de façon presque humaniste, le reflet de sa propre communauté académique se réfléchissant, dans sa composition sociologique et dans ses finalités pédagogiques et morales, au miroir de ses sources scientifiques et littéraires. |
