| Summary, etc. | 193 nuclear tests were carried out in French Polynesia between 1966 and 1996 as part of the French Pacific Testing Center (CEP). During this period, some 130,000 military personnel were stationed there. The history of the CEP invites us to reflect on the relationship between the Armed Forces as an institution, including its individual servicemen, and this territory where it operated. Looking back at this history means examining the narratives and recollections of an initiative marked under the seal of secrecy, the echoes and consequences of which are still being felt today in very different ways across various territories. It also raises questions about the documentation used to tell this story, the unequal constraints on access to archives, the potential uses of testimonies, and the synergies between these types of sources. |

| Summary, etc. | Entre 1966 et 1996, 193 essais nucléaires ont été réalisés en Polynésie française dans le cadre du Centre d’expérimentation du Pacifique (CEP). Durant cette période, environ 130 000 militaires ont séjourné sur place. L’histoire du CEP invite alors à une réflexion sur les rapports des armées en tant qu’institution et des militaires à titre individuel avec ce territoire. Revenir sur cette histoire permet d’interroger la mise en récit et les mémoires d’une entreprise marquée par le sceau du secret, dont les échos et les conséquences se font encore sentir aujourd’hui de façons très diverses selon les territoires. C’est également s’interroger sur la documentation disponible pour faire cette histoire, sur les contraintes inégales d’accès aux archives, sur les utilisations possibles des témoignages et les synergies entre ces types de sources. |
