| Summary, etc. | This text looks back at the conditions under which the investigation that gave rise to the anthropological report on the Commission took place in the early 1990s. Abelès retraces the path that led him from his doctoral thesis to the European Parliament and then to the Commission. It highlights the methodological reflexivity that was at work in the course of the fieldwork, particularly concerning the relationship to the commission, the point of entry into the observation, the singularity of the position of intersection occupied by the researchers, or the effects of intrusion in the short term or in the longer term, such as during reception of the study. The text advocates a non-essentialist and non-monolithic conceptualisation of the institution as a system of structuring tensions between individual and shared identities. |

| Summary, etc. | Ce texte est un retour sur les conditions dans lesquelles s’est opérée l’enquête qui a donné lieu au rapport anthropologique sur la Commission au début des années 1990. Abélès revient sur le fil conducteur qui l’a conduit de sa thèse au Parlement européen puis à la Commission. Il témoigne ensuite de la réflexivité méthodologique qui fut à l’œuvre au cours de l’enquête, en particulier sur le rapport à la commande de la Commission, le point d’entrée dans l’observation, la singularité de la position d’intersection occupée par les chercheurs, ou les effets d’intrusion à court terme ou du reste à plus long terme, comme lors de la réception de l’étude. Le texte plaide pour une conceptualisation non essentialiste et non monolithique de l’institution comme système de tensions structurantes entre des identités individuelles et communes. |
