| Summary, etc. | Committed to a proactive policy in favor of social protection, Mauritania has been developing a social register since 2015, an information system for identifying and registering families potentially eligible for social programs. In contrast to other countries in the region, Mauritania’s social register demonstrates strong institutional appropriation, continuously adapting its targeting modalities according to the country’s vulnerabilities. While the institutionalization of this public policy instrument is proceeding rapidly, certain methodological choices, such as the reduced role given to communities in selecting families in the register databases, nevertheless pose challenges, particularly in terms of social acceptability. |

| Summary, etc. | Engagée dans une politique volontariste en faveur de la protection sociale, la Mauritanie développe depuis 2015 un registre social, système d’information permettant l’identification et l’enregistrement des familles potentiellement éligibles aux programmes sociaux. Contrairement aux autres pays de la région, le registre social mauritanien démontre une forte appropriation institutionnelle, adaptant de façon continue ses modalités de ciblage suivant les vulnérabilités du pays. Si l’institutionnalisation de cet instrument de politique publique est rapide, certains choix méthodologiques tels que la moindre place laissée aux communautés dans la sélection des familles dans les bases de données du registre posent toutefois des défis, notamment en termes d’acceptabilité sociale.
