| Summary, etc. | This article considers the disappearance or death of individuals resulting from a natural disaster: in this case, the Orléansville (or Chélif) earthquake that occurred in Algeria, in September 1954, in a region prone to earthquakes. How the dead were managed – from searching for bodies that were buried, imprisoned or walled under rubble, to burial (or not, in cases of disappearances) – will be examined. While work began on the reconstruction of the affected areas, the war began a few weeks later, on 1st November (1954–1962). |

L’administration de la mort – de la recherche des corps, ensevelis, incarcérés ou emmurés sous les décombres, à l’inhumation (ou non, en cas de disparition) – sera examinée.
