520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The Banff, Jasper, Yoho, Kootenay and Waterton Lakes National Parks in the Canadian Rockies (Alberta and British Columbia) and the Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks in the Selkirk Mountains provide an excellent “analysis laboratory” for nature activities in Western Canada. Welcoming over ten million visitors each year, these Parks are a favorite destination for Canadians and American Westerners. By analyzing visitor activities, this paper explores the way in which visitors understand the natural environment. The paper also attempts to understand the ways in which the activities pertain to the construction of a somewhat idealized natural environment. This environment does not, in fact, emerge as an objective fact. On the contrary, it is part of a process in which the societal construct is based on external mediators (particularly art and photography) and the “wilderness experience” where nature promotes both personal and public growth through the Parks experience.
