Global production, concentrated mainly in Colombia, has tripled in ten years, and Europe is now the world’s leading market. In France, seizures have risen sharply. The authors provide statistics on drug use in the general population, noting that the spread of the drug is both visible and invisible. While most people have never tried cocaine, the attention drawn to the phenomenon by the press and institutions gives an impression of widespread use. Certain sectors (law enforcement, medical and social services) are highly impacted and fuel this perception. La production mondiale, surtout concentrée en Colombie, a triplé en dix ans, et l’Europe est désormais le premier marché mondial. En France, des saisies en forte hausse sont constatées. Les auteurs livrent des statistiques d’usage en population générale, et remarquent que la diffusion est à la fois visible et invisible. Si la majorité de la population n’a jamais touché à la cocaïne, la médiatisation du phénomène par la presse et les institutions donne une impression de généralisation. Certains secteurs (forces de l’ordre, médico-social) sont fortement exposés et nourrissent cette perception.
