| Summary, etc. | In child protection contexts, “running away” is almost inevitable. These behaviours reveal the restrictive nature of the daily lives of young people in care. These constraints can result in restrictions on their visiting rights (Frechon, Marquet, 2018) and, more broadly, impact their later lives, since minors are not systematically involved in decisions concerning them (Robin, 2013). Based on a field study conducted in a children’s home – including observations and interviews carried out over a four-month period as part of a doctoral research project –, this article analyses a specific type of “running away” in child protection. Labelled as such by the institution, some instances of runaways are a response to the lack of exit rights for minors placed under child welfare services (Ase). For these young people, running away becomes a way to circumvent the constraints associated with placement and experiment with the limits imposed by the protective framework. Their objective may often be to create or maintain social bonds outside the care structure. |

| Summary, etc. | En protection de l’enfance, les « fugues » sont quasi inévitables. Ces comportements révèlent les contraintes qui façonnent la vie quotidienne des jeunes pris en charge et qui peuvent notamment se traduire par des restrictions de leurs droits de visite et, plus généralement, affecter leur parcours, puisque les mineurs ne sont pas systématiquement associés aux décisions qui les concernent. À partir d’une enquête de terrain menée dans un foyer pour enfants – observations et entretiens réalisés sur une période de quatre mois dans le cadre d’une recherche doctorale –, cet article propose d’analyser un type particulier de « fugues » en protection de l’enfance. Labellisées comme telles par l’institution, certaines fugues sont une réponse à l’absence d’autorisation de sortie des mineurs confiés à l’aide sociale à l’enfance (Ase). Elles constituent, pour ces jeunes, une manière de contourner les contraintes liées au placement, en négociant avec le cadre imposé par la mesure de protection. Elles peuvent avoir pour objectif de créer, voire de maintenir, des liens à l’extérieur de la structure d’accueil. |
