Summary, etc. The idea of sustainable performance marks a paradigm shift for the economic world. In this article, we focus in particular on two scientific conversations: the “resocialization of markets,” inspired by the sociology of markets literature; and the emergence of professional occupations informed by the literature on professions and occupations in sociology and management. In the first part of this paper, we provide a brief history of the sustainability-related occupations that have emerged following the growing acceptance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the business community since the 1950s. In the second part, we explain how research on sustainability management professions contributes to a deeper understanding of the evolution of representations in professional practice, which shape how practitioners perceive themselves, their profession, and their practices. Together these discussions allow us to shed light on the evolution of management occupations in the era of sustainable performance.
