Summary, etc. | When the Germans entered Paris in June 1940, the Alliance library was an internationally respected institution in the field of Jewish studies. It held rare written documents and was a useful instrument for academic researchers. From 1940 to 1944, the library was the victim of organized plundering, while the occupying forces used it as storage space for their spoils. This paper shows how the Alliance managed to reorganize a library whose directors kept succeeding one another. It stresses Edmond-Maurice Lévy’s work as well as a number of ambitious projects that demonstrated its vitality. |
