| Summary, etc. | Introduction: Aligners are presented as an aesthetic and simple solution capable of treating a wide range of malocclusions. However, they require numerous auxiliaries that are often complex to implement and unesthetic attachments to compensate for their inability in reproducing the simulated movements. Objectives: The aim of this article is to review the advantages and limitations of aligners by proposing an aesthetic, rational, and standardized solution. Material and Methods: The scientific data shows the movements for which aligners are less effective. The article illustrates through a clinical case how it is possible to combine the 2D lingual appliance and aligners to compensate for the shortcomings of each and optimize their strengths during their use. Results: When the treatment plan defines the movements to be performed, the choice of the appliance becomes clinically and logically evident according to the ongoing therapeutic sequence. Conclusion: Aligners offer advantages that make them indispensable in the orthodontist’s therapeutic arsenal, but they are not sufficient on their own. |

| Summary, etc. | Introduction : Les aligneurs sont présentés comme une solution esthétique et simple pouvant traiter une très grande variété de malocclusions. Pourtant, ils nécessitent de nombreux auxiliaires, souvent complexes à mettre en œuvre, et des taquets inesthétiques pour compenser leur insuffisance à reproduire les mouvements simulés. Objectifs : L’article a pour objectif de faire le point sur les avantages et limites des aligneurs en proposant une solution esthétique, rationnelle et protocolée. Matériel et méthodes : Grâce aux données récentes de la littérature, nous connaissons les limites ainsi que les mouvements pour lesquels les aligneurs sont peu efficaces. L’article illustre, au travers d’un cas clinique, comment il est possible de combiner l’appareil lingual 2D et les aligneurs pour pallier les insuffisances de l’un et de l’autre, mais également pour optimiser leurs points forts. Résultats : Lorsque le plan de traitement définit les séquences de déplacements dentaires à réaliser, le choix de l’appareil s’impose logiquement au fur et à mesure des observations cliniques. Conclusion : Les aligneurs présentent des avantages qui les rendent indispensables dans l’arsenal thérapeutique de l’orthodontiste mais ils ne se suffisent pas à eux-mêmes. |
