| Summary, etc. | This study analyzes the evolution of the concept of editorial flair since the nineteenth century. Drawing on a corpus of textbooks and publishers, it identifies two meanings and two forms of flair—zeitgeist and discovery—both of which have been increasingly challenged since the 1980s by rationalized methods of market analysis. The study situates flair within the traditional dichotomy between art and commerce in the cultural industries, suggesting that its invocation may reflect a form of double game. |

Notre corpus de manuels et d’ouvrages d’éditeurs révèle deux sens et deux formes de flair – « air du temps » et « découverte » –, concurrencés depuis les années 1980 par des méthodes rationnelles d’analyse du marché. L’étude analyse la place du flair au regard de la traditionnelle dichotomie art vs commerce des industries culturelles. La référence au flair peut ainsi révéler une forme de double-jeu. |
