In the second half of the eighteenth century, the Franco-British rivalry increasingly affected maritime navigation and resulted in restrictions which put almost an end to trade with the enemy and neutral shipping in the revolutionary and Napoleonic wars. |

| Summary, etc. | Cet article retrace l’usage de dispositifs économiques par la France pour accroître sa position internationale et comme arme de guerre contre ses ennemis. Dans la seconde moitié du xviii e siècle, la rivalité franco-britannique affecte de manière croissante la navigation maritime jusqu’à réduire quasi à néant la possibilité de commercer avec l’ennemi et de naviguer sous pavillon neutre pendant les guerres de la période révolutionnaire et napoléonienne. |
