| Summary, etc. | During the rule of Charles XI and Charles XII, Swedish peasants’ right to freely serve in the army as well as the requirement to do so was transferred to Swedish overseas provinces Estonia and Livonia as a part of integration process. During the Great Northern War, conscription created the national line infantry, which had similar maintenance traits with the Swedish infantry allotment system. As those troops were regulated line troops maintained through a constant flow of good, qualified recruits, the historical term “land-militia“ is not suitable in this context. Also, at least two units, the battalions of Saaremaa and von Hüene in Tallinn, made up of Estonian peasants, were established as permanent troops in war as well as in peace time. This kind of national mobilization was new in local provincial societies. |

| Summary, etc. | Dans le cadre d’un processus d’intégration qui se déroule pendant les règnes de Charles XI et de Charles XII, le libre droit des paysans suédois de s’engager et de servir dans l’armée est étendu aux provinces ultramarines d’Estonie et de Livonie. Lors de la Grande Guerre du Nord, l’application de la conscription permet de créer une infanterie de ligne nationale dont l’entretien présente des similitudes avec le système suédois de l’allotement de l’infanterie. Comme ces troupes étaient des troupes de lignes régulières, dont les effectifs étaient maintenus par l’enrôlement permanent de recrues de qualité, l’usage du terme historique de milice territoriale n’est pas véritablement adapté dans ce cas. Ainsi, au moins deux unités, les bataillons de Saaremaa et von Hüene à Tallinn, composés de paysans estoniens, étaient établis comme des troupes permanentes en temps de guerre et durant la paix. Ce type de mobilisation nationale est une nouveauté pour les sociétés locales au sein des provinces. |
